CZM introduces short mast option for its EK160

CZM Foundation Equipment recently introduced an Ultra Short Mast option for its popular EK160.

The EK160USM is designed to deliver high performance for fast and easy setup for operation and transport mode.

According to CZM, the EK160USM is the only machine of its class in the market that allows contractors to drill in spaces with as low as 6 metres of overhead, up to a depth of 16.7 metres and a diameter of 3 metres.

These abilities make the EK160USM the ideal machine for drilling under transmission lines. As well, with a torque of 167,350 foot pounds, it can drill through very hard soil layers and rock.

The EK160USM is mounted on a Caterpillar 330F, with extendable crawlers for 360-degree stability, and is powered by a Cat ACERT C7.1 Tier 4 Final engine.

The machine is also equipped with Cat Vision Link that allows management to monitor machine operations and maintenance data online, providing information such as location, hours, fuel usage, idle time, event codes and maintenance schedule.

With an operating weight of 46,946 kg and a transport weight of 37,648 kg, the EK160USM is easy to transport. Furthermore, the machine is equipped with a self-erecting counterweight for easy set up and break down.

With this system, by means of hydraulic cylinders installed in the back, the operator can pick up the counterweight from ground level and install it in place, eliminating the need for a crane or forklift to set up the machine at the jobsite.

This also reduces the operation cost and boosts contractor’s return on the investment.

On the main winch, a special groove provides better cable winding and longer cable life, while two gears allow for both high speed and high pulling force.

The EK160USM is equipped with a ROPS cab with a touchscreen LCD monitor that delivers diagnostic information. The control system also delivers several automatic functions including auto-level of the mast, rotary gear shifting, drill lock, auto crowd and return to centre.

CZM has been manufacturing foundation drill rigs since 1976. In the early 2000s, the company created CZM USA, and opened a factory in Savannah, Georgia.
