Equipment Sales and Service (ESS) is expanding its drilling and foundation business, following the acquisition of Selix Equipment.
On Friday, Oct. 20, ESS announced the acquisition of the Ottawa, Ont.-based drilling and foundation equipment company.
“ESS is extremely excited about this acquisition. It is a perfect fit for our growth strategy and will expand our footprint across Canada, said Morgan Cronin, president of Equipment Sales and Service. “In addition, the core skills of Selix personnel will greatly enhance our ability to sell and support the Soilmec line of equipment that we represent. We welcome Selix into the ESS Corporate Group.”
Based in Ottawa, Ontario, Selix has an established Canadian market presence and has experienced rapid growth since it was established in 2011.
As well, Selix’s business scope includes small and large rock drills for quarries and construction; various sizes of multi-use drills for ground consolidation, environmental sampling, tie backs, micro piles and jet grouting; and geothermal and hydraulic piling rigs from 35 to 110 tons.
Cronin added both companies will continue to operate as separate businesses.
“This transaction will provide Selix access to ESS’ broad support network across Canada and open new territories for sale of Soilmec Drilling and Foundation Equipment and related product lines. Selix will remain operating as a separate entity and both active owners will continue to run the company while reporting to the president of ESS.”
Selix carries the Sandvik and GEAX product lines. As well, the company has supply arrangements with the Italian Carandina SLR for the supply of foundation drilling tools, Tramac for hydraulic rock breakers and, ICE from the United States for piling and vibro equipment. ICE specializes in the development and innovation of vibratory technology.
“Selix is ready to move to the next level and become a dominant player in the foundation and drilling industry,” said Mario Roussel of Selix. “Our relationship with ESS will be a major asset in accomplishing that objective.”
Founded in 1946 and one of Canada’s oldest heavy equipment companies, ESS provides multi-line customer solutions for heavy equipment, parts and service from eight Canadian locations across Ontario, Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia. In March, ESS was named one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies, a title it has held since 2011.
