JCB is expanding its compact equipment lineup with the introduction of the new 250 and 290 skid steers.
Manufactured in Savannah, Georgia, the new models are designed to meet the demands of North American construction and landscape professionals.
“North American contractors continue to face labour shortages, making every employee and every piece of equipment more important than ever,” said Lee Tice, Senior Product Manager – Compact Equipment, JCB North America.
“The new 250 and 290 skid steer loaders are designed to help a single operator accomplish more throughout the day. Our industry-exclusive side-door entry eliminates the need to climb over buckets, pallet forks and other attachments every time operators enter or exit the machine. It’s a smarter design that improves productivity, enhances safety and helps operators keep work moving.”
The 250 and 290 are powered by a 74-hp engine, and engineered to support a wide range of attachments and tackle daily jobs across the jobsite.
The JCB 250 is a vertical-lift skid steer with an operating weight of 3,543 kg and a rated operating capacity of 1,148 kg. Standard auxiliary hydraulic flow is 70 litres per minute, while the optional high-flow system increases output to 115 litres per minute, providing additional capacity for hydraulically demanding attachments.
The 250 also delivers a hinge-pin height of 3 metres and a maximum travel speed of 18.5 km per hour.

The larger JCB 290 is also a vertical-lift machine, weighing 4,029 kg and delivering a rated operating capacity of 1,374 kg.
Standard auxiliary hydraulic flow is 91 litres per minute, with an optional high-flow package delivering about 120 litres per minute. The 290 reaches a hinge-pin height of 3.2 metres and has a maximum travel speed of 20 km per hour.
From loading trucks and moving pallets to grading, site cleanup and material handling, the new machines are built for year-round productivity.
They also bring JCB’s single-arm boom design to this size class, pairing enhanced visibility with convenient side-door entry.
The 250 and 290 skid steers bring JCB’s design to one of the industry’s most popular machine classes.
Positioned in a new mid-size weight class for JCB, the machines offer an ideal balance of lifting performance, manoeuvrability and versatility.
Despite their capability, both models maintain a compact footprint and excellent manoeuvrability. Operators can work efficiently around residential jobsites, commercial developments, landscape projects and other confined work areas where larger equipment may not fit.
