Here are the Top 5 most-read equipment stories from throughout 2024:
#5 John Deer’e P-Tier dozers

In March, John Deere announced the 950 P-Tier and 1050 P-Tier dozers. Replacing the 950K and 1050K, the dozers are the next generation of models to join the increasing lineup of John Deere P-Tier machines.
The new 1050 P-Tier dozer boasts an increase in engine power and a redesigned hood and front-end design. In addition, both the 950 P-Tier and 1050 P-Tier offer enhanced visibility and improved safety features to boost productivity and protection on the jobsite.
“John Deere is dedicated to providing its customers with large dozer options that fit the needs of every job site, and the new P-Tier machines offer the durability and reliability our customers demand from machines of this size class”, said Matt Costello, Product Marketing Manager for John Deere Construction & Forestry.
#4 Komatsu’s PC4000-11E

At this year’s MinExpo in Las Vegas, Komatsu presented its electrically powered PC4000-11E hydraulic mining excavator.
The hydraulic mining excavator merges the digging force of high-performance diesel machines with the reduced carbon footprint of an electrically powered machine.
The electric drive is designed to reduce emissions by up to 95 per cent. When combined with the Komatsu Trolley Truck Assist System, electrification of production can be significantly increased, promoting more sustainable mining operations.
“We see ourselves as partners to our customers, supporting and collaborating with them on their journey toward a more sustainable and efficient mining operation,” said Peter Buhles, Vice President Sales and Service, Komatsu Germany GmbH – Mining Division.
#3 Construction King backhoes

Our third most popular story of the year was Case Construction Equipment’s introduction of two new Construction King Backhoe models.
the Case 695SV side-shift and 695SV centre-pivot models join the Case Utility Plus and the Case 580SV Construction King centre pivot models in the series lineup.
“The new side-shift models take the legendary Case Construction King capabilities to new frontiers, putting them smack dab into confined spaces and up next to structures,” said George MacIntyre, Product Manager at Case for backhoe loaders.
Side-shift capabilities allow operators to move the boom left or right to work more efficiently parallel to walls or around obstacles.
The new machines carry over many popular features from the N Series, like ProControl swing dampening, auto ride control and Eco modes for fuel savings, along with significant upgrades to maneuverability.
#2 Cat’s electric mining truck

In early 2024, Caterpillar announced it successfully demonstrated its first battery electric prototype underground mining truck, growing its portfolio of battery electric and semi-autonomous technology for underground mining.
Cat hosted the electric mining truck demonstration for Newmont Corporation and other mining industry leaders, at its proving ground in Tasmania, Australia.
“This milestone is a reflection of the partnership between our teams at Newmont and Caterpillar, showcasing the impact of strong collaboration in the mining industry,” said Rob Atkinson, Executive Vice President at Newmont. “Achieving this milestone together, combining capabilities and shared values, is a testament to the strength of our strategic alliance.”
The battery electric truck will complete Caterpillar’s first fully electric underground load and haul solution when paired with the commercially available R1700 XE battery electric loader.
#1 Mammoet SK6000 ring crane

Our most popular article of 2024 was the announcement of the world’s strongest land-based ring crane.
In the summer, Mammoet said assembly of the Sk6000 was underway at its Westdorpe facility in the Netherlands.
The SK6000 has a maximum capacity of 6,000 tonnes and is capable of lifting components up to 3,000 tonnes to a height of 220 metres. The crane also features a maximum radius of 144 metres.
Its sheer lifting power will allow Mammoet customers to build more efficiently in larger pieces, shrinking the logistics, integration and mobilization phases of projects.
“This is a thrilling new chapter for Mammoet and modular construction in heavy industry, as we see the SK6000 taking shape,” said Koen Brouwers, Mammoet’s Project Manager for the SK6000.
“It will offer a hook height, outreach and lifting capacity far in excess of any crane on the market. We are excited to bring this groundbreaking technology to our customers, helping them achieve their project goals with greater efficiency and more sustainably.”
In November, the company announced testing of the crane was completed, and the SK6000 was ready to be shipped to its first project in early 2025.
