Bomag fills compaction gap with new BW 18 RH pneumatic tire roller

Bomag has announced the new flexible and fuel-efficient BW 18 RH pneumatic tire roller which is designed to deliver excellent surface sealing across various applications, from maintenance to highways.

Sharing many of the same components as the field-proven BW 28 RH, the new BW 18 RH offers a maximum operating weight of 18,000 kg and a maximum wheel load up to 2,250 kg.

“Bomag is already offering a BW 11 and a BW 28 but we have the gap in between. So, this is the new BW 18 with a maximum operating rate of 18 metric tons,” said Christoph Thiesbrummel, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Bomag. “It’s a perfect fit for chip and seal for intermediate or finish roll on the asphalt side as well.”

The new roller’s three-way oscillating front axle ensures even weight distribution across all tires. The eight-tire roller offers a 204-cm rolling width, and individually oscillating tires provide the kneading effect needed to provide a superior surface finish as well as high compaction forces for excellent results on chip-and-seal applications.

Helping to achieve optimum compaction performance, customers can equip the new BW 18 RH with the available tire inflation control system that allows operators to adjust individual tire pressure between 29 to 116 psi from the seat.

As well, a standard pressurized water system, plus optional spring-loaded scraper brush or coco mats and thermal aprons, help to keep asphalt from sticking to the tires.

The BW 18 RH is powered by a 74.2 hp Deutz engine and delivers impressive torque combined with low fuel consumption and emission levels.

To reduce long-term operating costs, Bomag eliminated the need for diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) and equipped the standard Bomag EcoMode operation to meet emissions standards.

With its maximum travel speed of 15.9 km per hour, the new roller is capable of 80 to 150 tonne-per-hour compaction output at 10 to 12 cm lift thicknesses.

Bomag’s unique pneumatic roller ballast system significantly increases application versatility. The machine features a large 3-cubic-metre ballast compartment, while flexible weight plate ballast options allow customers to increase total roller operating weight from 10 to 16 tonnes without using the ballast compartment.

A maximum ballasted weight of 18 tonnes is achievable through filling the ballast compartment alone or by a combination of adding plate and ballast compartment weight.

A spacious ROPS operator’s platform and an easily rotatable and slidable driver’s seat help to elevate operator comfort throughout the day.

The seat adjustability combines with a modern frame design to deliver all-round visibility. A highly responsive travel control lever with multi-adjustable arm rest helps to reduce fatigue. A rocker brake spans the width of the platform to improve braking and roller control.
