Cooper Equipment Rentals has acquired the Alberta-based Prime Rentals Ltd.

Prime Rentals has two locations in Alberta, one in Lethbridge and the other in nearby Taber.

Prime was established in 1979, and throughout the last several decades has developed a reputation for reliable, value-added service with a loyal customer base.

Kim and Trina Tymko, the owners of Prime Rentals, will assist Cooper in achieving a smooth transition of the acquisition throughout the next several months.

“My wife Trina and I take great pride in the business our family has built, and we are deeply committed to Prime Rentals’ employees and customers, said Kim Tymko, President of Prime Rentals.

“We have every confidence that this transaction will provide meaningful opportunity for our employees and will allow Prime Rentals’ customers to continue receiving the high level of service to which they have become accustomed.”

In January of 2018, Cooper acquired Modern Rentals, a construction and industrial equipment rental company that serves Southern Alberta from its branches in Calgary and Medicine Hat.

The acquisition of Prime Rentals allows Cooper to further strengthen its position in Alberta.

“We are excited about the expansion of our operations in the Southern Alberta market with the addition of Prime Rentals’ experienced team of rental professionals, well-rounded equipment fleet and excellent branch facilities,” said Darryl Cooper, president of Cooper Equipment.

In January, Cooper also announced it would be entering the British Columbia market, following the acquisition of Star Rentals — The largest rental company in the lower mainland of the province.

Cooper CEO Doug Dougherty added “this strategic acquisition (of Prime Rentals) strengthens our position in the important Alberta market and allows us to better support customers throughout Southern Alberta,” said Cooper CEO Doug Dougherty. “It moves us closer to our goal of establishing a national network of branches through which we can deliver best-in-class service to customers throughout Canada.”

Established in 1972, Cooper rents equipment to contractors through more than 40 locations in Ontario, Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia. Cooper specializes in compact equipment and aerial rentals and offers a broad range of construction equipment and supplies.
