Cooper Equipment has acquired Modern Industrial Rentals Ltd.
Established in 1978, Modern Rentals is a construction and industrial equipment rental company that services Southern Alberta from its locations in Calgary and Medicine Hat.
“We are excited about the opportunity to strengthen our business in Western Canada with the addition of Modern Rentals’ experienced team of rental professionals, quality equipment fleet and strategically located branch facilities,” said Cooper President Doug Dougherty.

The company’s equipment roster includes, aerial lifts, loaders, compaction equipment, excavators, electric jack hammers as well as other light equipment options.

The Modern Rentals acquisition is the second company Cooper has purchased in Southern Alberta in recent months. In July, Cooper announced the acquisition of Alberta Lifts. The company focuses on aerial equipment that services Southern Alberta from its branches in Calgary and Lethbridge.
“This transaction, as a follow up to the acquisition of Alberta Lift in July 2017, will allow Cooper to leverage its position as the premium aerial equipment supplier in Southern Alberta and bring the full range of equipment rental services to Cooper’s and Modern’s valued customers,” said Justin Wharton, regional manager for Southern Alberta. “I am very excited to be working with the excellent team at Modern Rentals to continue our growth in Western Canada.”
Cooper Equipment, owned by Halifax-based Seafort Capital, is a Canadian owned full-service construction equipment rental company, servicing contractors throughout Ontario and in parts of Quebec and Alberta. Established in 1972, Cooper specializes in compact equipment, aerial access and trench safety equipment, and offers a broad range of construction equipment and supplies. The company operates 30 rental locations.
