Creighton Rock Drill acquires TuffStudds

Creighton Rock Drill Ltd. (CRD) has acquired TuffStudds LLC, a manufacturer of chromium carbide wear protection studs for mining and earthmoving equipment.

The acquisition allows Creighton Rock Drill to integrate TuffStudds’ innovative wear protection technology into its product portfolio.

TuffStudds’ chromium carbide-laden alloy studs provide superior abrasion and wear resistance when applied to equipment surfaces, significantly increasing service life and efficiency for customers. The studs can increase service life by up to three times longer than non-studded surfaces.

A key advantage of TuffStudds is sustainability. The studs are designed to significantly increase the service life and efficiency of equipment, reducing the need for frequent replacements and minimizing waste.

The TuffStudds application process involves a stud welding system that uses a stud gun powered by a transformer/rectifier with solid state weld timing and amperage control.

For field use, an AC generator with a minimum capacity of 85 kW can power the DC welding system. Each stud takes a maximum 1.2 seconds of arc time to apply. Simply load a stud and a ceramic arc shield into the stud welding gun, position on the work surface and pull the trigger.

As well, the application process is environmentally friendly, with the studs being metallurgically bonded to the work surface without generating hazardous byproducts. This aligns with CRD’s commitment to offering eco-friendly industrial products, such as their environmentally safe drilling fluid.

The acquisition reinforces CRD’s commitment to providing cutting-edge wear management solutions tailored to their customers’ needs across diverse industries. This commitment will extend to all 11 of CRD’s locations spanning central and eastern Canada.
