Volvo has introduced North America to its new EC27D compact excavator.
The new machine features five per cent greater fuel economy than its predecessor, a large operating range for its size class and combines intuitive operation and comfort with versatility.
Equipped with a Volvo D1.1A Tier 4 Final engine with passive regeneration, the EC27D features more than 4,355 kg of digging force. Due to the precise matching of the engine to the hydraulics, the EC27D uses five per cent less fuel and has 30 per cent less horsepower than its predecessor while maintaining the same breakout and tear out forces.
The EC27D is a conventional radius machine and a complement to the ECR25D short swing excavator with its similar size. However, it has greater lifting capacity and stability compared to the short swing model.
“The EC27D is a great addition to the Volvo compact excavator line,” said John Comrie, product manager at Volvo Construction Equipment. “Its size, stability and lifting capacity make it perfect for utility work and rental companies — it’s one machine that can do everything.”
Smooth operation
With 360-degree visibility, ergonomic design, convenient storage and noise and vibration insulation, the cab is a comfortable environment designed to reduce operator fatigue.
Built with responsive controls and an optimized hydraulic system, the operator can pilot the machine with ease and precision, according to Volvo. Proportional fingertip controls offer a effortless command of the boom offset and auxiliary hydraulic flows, while the joystick enables the operator to fine-tune the maximum hydraulic flow of any attachment to ensure ideal speed and power for the task at hand. Using the automatic two-speed travel system, the operator is able to continually drive the machine at a high speed, which is automatically reduced when more traction is required.
The extended working range requires less repositioning and enables the operator to work close to the blade for fast finishing when grading.
As well, changing attachments is quick and easy with the Volvo pin-grabber mechanical quick coupler. Compatible with all Volvo attachments, Volvo couplers ensure the optimum versatility for any task.
Minimal maintenance
The single variable displacement pump uses power from the Volvo engine, only when it is needed for optimal fuel efficiency. The auto idle and auto engine shutdown features also reduce fuel consumption and maintenance costs while ensuring a higher resale value.
The wide-opening lockable engine hood provides easy access to grouped daily checkpoints. Using the Volvo patented hydraulic filter, operators can visually check hydraulic oil condition at a glance. Daily maintenance is minimized with 50-hour greasing intervals, saving customers time and money.
