Volvo CE enters 20-ton class excavator market with new EC200E

Volvo CE 20 ton excavator

Volvo CE is entering the North American 20-ton excavator class with the launch of the EC200E.

The EC200E made its debut at bauma, and provides a new excavator option between Volvo ’s 16 and 22-ton machines.

“It’s a product in the really competitive and demanding medium duty segment,” said Melker Jernberg, president of Volvo CE. “This is perfect for in house, rental road infrastructure you name it. We have big hopes in this product. It gives lots of value for its owners.”

The EC200E has a maximum digging reach of 10 metres and a maximum digging depth of 6.8 metres, with a lifting capacity of 7,320 kg. The excavator is equipped with a 154 hp Tier 4 Final D4 Volvo engine.

“This machine’s size and price point make it a great new option for rental yards and for owners of smaller fleets looking to move up to take on bigger projects, particularly those in the building segment,” said Sung Sook Kim, product manager excavators at Volvo CE.

X1 hydraulic piping

The EC200E is fitted with X1 hydraulic piping as well as an attachment management system that allows for pre-setting hydraulic flow and pressure for up to 20 different attachments. As well, the machine is equipped for quick couplers, making it easier to quickly swap out attachments.

As opposed to larger machines, the Volvo CE EC200E also features the ability to be transported on a trailer without additional permits.

The excavator also features auto idling, auto engine shutdown and eco mode to increase fuel efficiency. Integrated work modes incorporate engine rpm and hydraulic flow into a single dial, allowing operators to easily get the perfect balance of power and controllability.

For safety, Volvo CE designed the machine with a ROPS cab, high-visibility handrails anti-slip steps as well as easy access to the machine via the right-hand side.

For improved serviceability, the EC200E includes grouped filters and single-layer cooling systems that are easily accessible from the ground level.

The EC200E is a new class size in Volvo’s North American crawler excavator lineup between the EC160E and EC220E. It was designed for customers who need a light- to medium-duty digging excavator.

It’s introduction follows a record year in machine sales and service for Volvo CE in 2018.

“Of course, 2018 was good market environment. I’m very proud of what we achieved last year,” Jernberg said.
