Engcon develops its own tilt sensors

For years, Engcon tiltrotators from the EC209 and up have been compatible with the major excavator guidance systems for years.

Some of the manufacturers also offer an automatic tilt function. Engcon is now taking things further by developing its very own tilt sensor.

“Our tiltrotators work extremely well with the market’s excavator guidance systems. The only unresolved issue was the actual interface — and we’re fixing that now with our own tilt sensor,” said Peter Huczkowsky, who leads development of Engcon’s control systems and other electronics.

Huczkowsky added the interface is seamless, now that Engcon provides all the necessary technology from the tiltrotator, via the DC2 control system cabling in the cab to which the excavator guidance system is connected. This also saves time and helps reduce installation costs.

Throughout 2019, Engcon will carry out tests of the tilt sensors. By the end of the year, the company anticipates its tilt sensor will be ready and compatible with the market’s most common excavator guidance systems.

“It will also mean that integrating the excavator guidance system will be easier and less expensive, since the tilt sensor will be included as standard in our ePS (Engcon Positioning System) installation kit,” Huczkowsky said.

Engcon tilt sensors will be retrofittable to Engcon’s tiltrotators from the EC209 up to the EC233.

At bauma, Engcon, Kobelco and Leica Geosystems announced a joint development of a system to automatically control the boom’s up and down movement, position, tilt and rotational angle of the bucket with a single lever.

The flexible system allows the operator to choose among Auto Boom Control, Auto Bucket Control, Auto Tilt Control and Auto Rotation Control or a combination of everything that is required to give the driver maximum control.

Launch of Kobelco’s automatic excavation and tiltrotator system is planned for the first quarter of 2020.

“We’ve developed an exciting solution together,” said Krister Blomgren, Engcon Group’s CEO.

The three companies exhibited the tiltrotator-compatible excavator guidance system on a Kobelco SK210LC-10 excavator.

The system combines the latest 3D Machine Control (3DMC) technology from Leica Geosystems with the leading tiltrotator technology from Engcon.
