Ariens has expanded the functionality of its Mammoth 850 snow vehicle with the availability of several new features.
The Mammoth is the first of its kind for Ariens, featuring a design that allows users to stand on a multi-use snow removal machine. Operators can clear snow or perform other tasks when working on large surfaces. It is ideal for applications that require substantial snow and ice removal operations, including municipal and commercial landscaping.
“Ariens is committed to expanding the capabilities of the Mammoth 850 because we think this unique machine is going to increasingly become the focal point of many organization’s snow operations in the coming years,” said Robert Endter, Director of Product Management, Snow, at Ariens. “Our goal is to make the Mammoth 850 a premier ride-on snow vehicle with a range of attachments and accessories that will enable users to complete an unparallelled variety of applications with a single machine.”
Ariens V-Plow attachment
The latest addition for the Mammoth 850 is a 1.2 metre v-plow attachment that’s designed to convert into three different shapes: v-plow, scoop and straight blade.
The v-plow shape is ideal for clearing snow outward in two directions, such as for trails or sidewalks. The scoop shape enables the placement of snow piling, such as for clearing space in front of a garage door or pathway.
Straight blade mode enables clearing snow to the side, in one direction, which is ideal for clearing large spaces like parking lots.
The V-Plow is installed via the Snowzilla Quick-Attach System that enables operators to swap attachments in as little as 30 seconds. It has a sealed, electric quick-connect coupling system with no belts or hydraulic hoses that limits the time it takes to connect or disconnect an attachment and the maintenance required. The V-Plow changes to scoop or straight blade mode via joystick command.
Ariens has also introduced several accessories for the Mammoth 850 v-plow, including:
- Wings for increased v-plow width and improved snow casting
- Skid shoes to improve efficiency and reducing blade wear
- A deflector that mounts across the top of the v-plow blade and deflects snow
The Mammoth 850 attachments are controlled by a joystick and the tractor operates through skid-steer style steering. The machine features a 28.5 hp Kawasaki 850V EFI engine with dual-canister filtration that generates uninterrupted power delivery and automatically adjusts to the application. Four Parker motors power a four-wheel drive riding experience on 55-cm Kendra Terra Trac tires, with a maximum forward speed of 13 km per hour and max reverse speed of 6.5 km per hour. It has an Ogura 2.75 electric PTO clutch for reliable attachment engagement and a 40-litre fuel tank that provides several hours of operation.
“We really see the Mammoth 850 as the future of large-surface snow removal,” Endter said.
“With a powerful engine and four-wheel drive steering, operators are able to cover sizable surface areas much more easily and efficiently than pushing a walk-behind vehicle. And with several attachments available that utilize our electric quick-connect system, the Mammoth 850 is an incredibly versatile vehicle that can handle a wide array of tasks.”
The Mammoth 850 operator station is based on a flip-up platform with a premium foam pad, like snowmobiles.
Heated grips are standard on the vehicle’s speed control levers, while several controls are at the operator’s fingertips, including an electric joystick for attachments, LED light switches, brine attachment switch and controls, chute cap control, PTO, handwarmer and throttle control level.
