At World of Asphalt in Nashville, Tennessee, John Deere showcased its new 904 P-tier Wheel Loader. The model is a two-pass loader solution that, according to the company, provides the durability and reliability needed to lift, transport and dump large amounts of processed aggregate and efficiently load trucks and rail cars on the job site.
Improved technology
The 904 P-tier offers obstacle intelligence features such as the Advanced Vision System—an advancement that the company claims to be an industry-first for loaders. This system allows increased visibility of the sides of the machine through the integration of two digital cameras on the rear-view mirror platform and a combination of views into a dedicated single display in the cab.
Also, the 904 P-tier offers an improved rear-object detection system. When moving in reverse, this feature overlays the projected path of the machine within the same dedicated monitor, which can enhance the operator’s situational awareness.

The 904 P-tier is JDLink compatible, allowing it to provide real-time machine data and alerts, leveraging a suite of dealer and factory tools, which can help to deliver increased productivity, uptime, while lowering daily operating costs.
Also, John Deere recently began offering its JDLink to customers without requiring a subscription and at no cost.
Lifting heavy
Designed for heavy lifting, the 904 P-tier comes equipped with 7.5- and 7.1-m3 (9.8 and 9.3 cu. yd.) material-handling buckets with integrated spill guards and curved side cutters, seat-mounted hydraulic controls for easier and more intuitive operation.
Moreover, high-capacity, heavy-duty axles feature standard axle cooling filtration for better durability in difficult conditions compared to previous models.
According to John Deere, advantages such as fuel-efficient engines, lockup torque converters and a dedicated steering pump, operators can do more while burning less fuel.
“The 904 P-tier is built off the success of the 844L Aggregate Handler. It’s equipped with key features like increased horsepower, breakout force, hydraulic pressures, and bucket offerings. The 904 P-tier is purpose-built for the rugged demands of the aggregates industry and the new model identity supports this approach,” said Luke Gribble, Solutions Marketing Manager for Loaders, and Aggregates at John Deere Construction & Forestry. “In addition, we wanted to advance our machines technology offerings by adding features that improve the experience of those who operate these machines.
According to John Deere, the 904 P-tier wheel loader will be available later in 2022.
