Snow removal contractors and property managers face a pressing challenge: how to clear the sites efficiently, without incurring the high costs of salt trucks and heavy equipment.
The answer? A modular salt spreader from Virnig Attachments for skid steers, available through CRD Creighton.
The modular salt spreader eliminates the need for separate salt trucks, assisting contractors to increase control of operations, lower equipment costs and deliver the ability to complete jobs faster.
With a modular design, the attachment is scalable to fit the needs of any site, from small parking lots to commercial complexes.
“This attachment is going to be a game changer in the winter maintenance industry,” said Shankar Chhetri, Product Sales Manager at CRD Creighton.
The dual spinner system on the salt spreader ensures an even application of salt or sand to both sides of the vehicle, delivering a uniform spread that minimizes material waste and reduces the number of passes required to cover the area.
One of the standout features of the skid steer salt spreader is its front-mounted design, which provides operators with visibility of the spreading area.
This is critical when working in tight spaces or high-traffic areas, where precision is key.
Operators can easily navigate congested parking lots, driveways and walkways, reduce the risk of collisions and improve overall safety on the job.
On-site storage

The spreader is loaded with salt by picking up totes that can be placed on the jobsite before a storm arrives.
These stackable, lockable poly totes hold up to 0.75 cubic yards of material and eliminate the need for manual loading and minimize handling time, allowing operators to focus on the task at hand.
The spreader also features dual augers with chains to agitate materials, breaking up clumps and ensuring that salt, sand and other de-icing mixes flow freely through the system. This ensures consistent spreading and reduces the likelihood of blockages.
Not all sites are created equal, and neither should your spreading method. The skid steer salt spreader offers a manually adjustable flow control valve, allowing operators to set the spread width from 3 metres to 12 metres.
Whether working on narrow sidewalks or large parking lots, this flexibility ensures the operator can adjust the spread to match the site’s specific needs.
