HLA Snow’s line of SnowWing plows is growing with the introduction of the SB4225W model.
The new SB4225W is the third plow in the lineup, joining the SB5226W and SB6226W models.
SnowWing plows are equipped with spring-trip protection on both the main mouldboard and wing cutting edges. HLA Snow’s EdgeFlex cutting-edge system is available as an option on the mouldboard and wings.
“As the snow sector’s expectations evolve, there is a constant need for more efficiency and productivity in plow design,” said Product Specialist Eli Martin. “The new wing trip feature combined with the optional EdgeFlex cutting edge system, provides maximum uptime and unparallelled scrape quality across the entire working width of the plow.”
The SB4225W is the smallest of the three plows, and features an 86-cm-high mouldboard, 1.5-metre spring-trip wings and a maximum carrier operating weight of 11,340 kg. Its rotary actuator delivers 5,242 foot-pounds of torque at 3,000 psi.
The mid-sized SB5226W increases mouldboard height to 106 cm and uses 1.8-metre wings. It is designed for carriers with a maximum operating weight of 18,145 kg. The SB6226W also uses 1.8-metre wings but increases mouldboard height to 1.3 metres and is designed for machines weighing up to 27,215 kg. Both larger models use the 8,582 foot-pound rotary actuator.
The SnowWing design allows operators to configure the attachment as a traditional box blade, straight blade or reverse box blade. On select configurations, extending the wings can add up to 3 metres of clearing width.
Spring-trip edges
SnowWing plows are designed to help protect the blade when operators encounter uneven surfaces or hidden obstacles when clearing snow.
The adjustable wings incorporate spring-trip cutting edges that can move when an obstruction is struck, helping to absorb the impact.
As well, HLA Snow equipped the new models with 180-degree rotary actuators to control and hold the wings in position. Floating endplate edges are designed to follow surface contours, while a replaceable curb runner is incorporated into the wing trip edge.
The optional EdgeFlex technology enhances ground-following performance for cleaner scraping and improved surface contact.
Depending on the model, closed blade widths range from 2.4-metres to 6-metres, while fully open widths range from 5.5 metres to 9.75 metres.
The plows weigh between 1,583-kg for the SB4225W to 3,519 kg for the largest SB6226W.
HLA Snow has also incorporated a tire protection system that automatically rotates the endplates away from the machine’s front tires to help prevent contact between the two. The system is intended to reduce the risk of tire or equipment damage as the wings are repositioned.
Removable upper wing tips provide another configuration option.
Removing the tips creates a contour-style wing designed to clear beneath fifth-wheel truck pins and other areas where overhead clearance is limited.
When ordered with EdgeFlex across the complete blade, the system is designed to improve ground following and provide continuous surface contact across the full clearing width.
Other available options include carbide cutting edges, a spill guard, foot-switch controls, a floating blade hinge, snowblade markers and a quick-attach snow blade mount.
