Boss Snowplow is expanding its snow and ice management lineup for the upcoming winter season with new equipment and technology.
The new introductions include the MBX+ municipal spreader, AutoSpread Control technology, a redesigned VSI LiquidTech sprayers and new heavy equipment-specific couplers for loader and backhoe box plows.
Boss is also expanding the availability of its Cold Front electrical system, SL4 LED headlights and SmartTouch+ universal controller across its plow lineup.
MBX+
At the larger end of the company’s ice-control lineup, the new MBX+ stainless-steel spreader is designed for municipal and high-volume snow removal.
The spreader is built around a 4-cubic-yard hopper, which can be expanded to 5 or 6 cubic yards using 1- or 2-yard bolt-on extensions. This allows fleets to increase material capacity without replacing the base spreader.
A high output pintle chain provides material flow rates of up to 193 kg per minute. The spreader also incorporates a flip-up spinner assembly designed to improve access for maintenance, trailering and off-season storage.
The MBX+ is designed to fit common flatbeds and dump bodies and includes the Boss Cold Front electrical system as standard.
Standard rate control allows the operator to establish spreading width and material flow, while job tracking can record material use for as many as 10 sites. The information can be used for billing, proof of service and material planning.
AutoSpread
For further control over salt application, Boss has introduced AutoSpread Control as an option for its new MBX+ and existing VBX+ spreaders.
The system can automatically change material output in response to vehicle speed and the selected spreading width.
The system is designed to maintain a consistent application rate rather than relying on the operator to continually adjust material flow as driving conditions change.
With AutoSpread, as the truck accelerates, material flow increases. When the vehicle slows, the application rate decreases, and when the truck stops, material flow and the spinner stop as well.
Operators can establish application rates using measurements including material per square footage or per kilometre of lane. Boss developed the system to reduce over-application while providing more consistent coverage.
Simplified liquid deicing
Boss is also changing the way customers configure its VSI LiquidTech sprayer systems.
Rather than buying a predetermined sprayer configuration, the system separates the tank and powerhead, allowing contractors and municipalities to select the components required for their operation.
Users select a tank, control package, powerhead and required accessories.
Tank capacities range from 1,150 to 6,050 litres, allowing the same system architecture to accommodate smaller commercial operations through to large fleets. Each tank skid is equipped with a stainless-steel frame as well as mounting points for work lights and hose reels.
The LiquidTech gas powerhead can pump up to 268 litres per minute. Depending on the configuration, the system supports spray widths of up to 9 metres at travel speeds of up to 24 km per hour.
Application can be managed through Boss Total Control or the VSI Spray Control App. GPS-based rate control monitors liquid flow and vehicle speed and automatically adjusts output to maintain the operator’s selected application rate.
Heavy equipment couplers
For contractors and municipalities using construction equipment for winter maintenance, Boss has also introduced couplers for its BH and LDR box plows.
The direct loader connection eliminates the chains and binders traditionally used to attach the company’s box plows to heavy equipment.
The coupler is designed to reduce the time required to connect and disconnect snow removal attachments, an advantage for fleets that regularly switch loaders and backhoes between winter attachments and other equipment.
Cold Front expands
Boss is increasing the number of plows equipped with its Cold Front Technology electrical system.
For the 2026-27 season, the system is standard on the EXT, 3-metre DXT and Heavy Duty Straight Blade plows, and is also available on the XT, DXT, TEV and Super Duty models.
Cold Front uses a redesigned connector that combines power, ground and control wiring into a single connection. The system also allows compatible plows and spreaders to share a common truck harness, simplifying installation and reducing the number of electrical connections on the vehicle.
Equipment incorporating Cold Front Technology is paired with Boss SL4 LED headlights and SmartTouch+ universal controller.
The SL4 headlights use the company’s ClearBeam Technology to provide a wider field of illumination around the front of the truck, while the SmartTouch+ provides universal control of compatible Boss equipment and includes two programmable auxiliary buttons.
Together, the new products expand Boss’s offering beyond traditional snowplows, with an increased focus on material management, liquid deicing and the use of loaders and backhoes in commercial and municipal snow removal operations.
